Supported by Land Rover and Motability, Phil's new Range Rover Sport will help him in his quest to raise £15 million pounds to build the British Inspiration Trust – an eco-friendly residential Centre of Excellence to enthuse, inspire and deliver support to young people with disability. Phil Packer was injured in 2008 whilst serving with the Army and was told he would never walk again. Against all the odds, his condition has improved and he is now able to walk with sticks and has and will continue to embark upon a number of challenges – such as those he has already completed including the London Marathon, a 30 mile row across the English Channel and a four day climb up El Capitan in Yosemite National Park and more recently the Three Peaks Challenge – to raise much needed funds to support young people with disabilities and injured service men and women. Land Rover In Action Land Rover will showcase the work of its global conservation and humanitarian partners in an exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), London from 29 March - 9 April. Message In A Bottle A capsule containing more than 2,000 letters from schoolchildren from across the east coast of the Atlantic seaboard has been launched into the middle of the ocean by the 'Atlantic Rising' expedition team, as an interactive way for young people to learn about ocean currents and their importance in maintaining the world’s climate. Supported by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) and Land Rover, the team of three,Tim Bromfield, Lynn Morris, and Will Lorimer, aim to discover how rising sea levels are affecting communities, whilst connecting and documenting the views of young people in those schools based along the coastline. Schoolchildren throughout the globe are being encouraged to follow the route of the capsule, which contains letters from pupils from 17 schools, from Scotland to Ghana, describing their local environments and their concerns for the future of the planet. To undertake the project, Atlantic Rising received the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) and Land Rover’s 2009 'Go Beyond' bursary of £10,000 and the use of a Defender 110 vehicle, which has been their mode of transport and home since they set off from Poole Harbour in September 2009. |
