RENUALT Kangoo - Cam Sensor Starting Problems

This 2003 Renault Kangoo diesel had been suffering from an annoying starting problem for some time. The driver had just come to accept the fact that occasionally the vehicle wouldn't start on the first turn of the key. When this happened, he discovered that after a few short bursts of the starter, the engine would eventually fire into life.
Mentioning the problem when the vehicle came in for a service, we read the vehicle's stored codes in the ECU. Only one fault code showed up, and that was "camshaft sensor".
With the engine mount disconnected and the engine jacked up slightly, the sensor is easily accessible, and being held in place by just one bolt, can be quickly changed. Once the service was complete and the new sensor fitted, the driver took his vehicle back on the road with his annoying starter fault now cured.
