Lohen | | Looking for an affordable way to give your MINI's braking system the full works but don't want to go through the hassle of hand-picking the parts? Then Lohen is on hand with its LB1 brake package for road and light-track use. The kit includes both front and rear EBC brake pads and discs as well as Goodridge braided brake lines for an improved pedal feel (in other words, to make braking feel firmer and more responsive). Lohen will even throw in a couple of bottles of AP Racing's 5.1 Dot brake fluid, specially formulated to reduce brake fade at high temperatures. The Lohen LB1 brake package is suitable for all first generation MINIs (except R56) and will cost around £370. In short, improved bite and reduced fade from a great priced brake kit. Want to find out more? Visit www.lohen.co.uk for information on this and other Lohen performance brake packages. | | Lohen 01785 859999 www.lohen.co.uk |
| | TAR-OX | | If you're looking for your MINI to run on brake discs which have been thoroughly tried and tested, then you can't go wrong with G88 discs. Celebrating their 20th birthday this year, they've been a long-time favourite from the TAR-OX range. These time-tested discs are still going strong today because of their unique, 40-groove design. Aside from helping to make these discs instantly recognisable, the real reason for so many grooves is to allow the discs to run cooler as the surface area of each disc has been divided into smaller portions. TAR-OX distributes its G88 discs direct, and prices start from £170 for a Gen1 MINI One. TAR-OX has near universal coverage for those looking to have G88 discs fitted to the rest of the range as well. In other words quality, TUVapproved performance discs, for just about any motor, at reasonably affordable prices.

| | Brembo
| | The Brembo Gran Turismo Brake System is the ultimate, complete high-performance brake kit, according to distributor POTN. You'll struggle to find anyone who'll commit to saying otherwise. It's that simple. Modifiers dream of fitting Brembo brakes to their motors thanks to their ridiculously efficient stopping power. The GT brake consists of your choice of either ventilated, integral or composite discs, four or eight piston aluminium calipers, performance pads, metal braid tubes and all other small parts. Most of Brembo's brake kits are available either with slotted or drilled discs and black, red or silver calipers. If you looking for genuine motorsport quality for your MINI from the premier worldwide braking company, then look no further. But be warned, these kits can get expensive, with prices for the full braking kit for a MINI Cooper starting at £1,136.99 from POTN. | | HiSpec Motorsport | | When MINI owners decide to uprate their brake systems with individual parts the focus usually centres on two elements - pads and discs. Sometimes what's forgotten is the only reason you're able to stop in the first place - the calipers. Surely these will need uprating too then? Well, that's why HiSpec think you should take a look at its excellent radial mount Billet 4 calipers. A major selling point for this specific model is that they're consistently suited to the weight and power of your car. This is because each caliper is designed to be rigid, made from heavy-duty (but lightweight) aluminium, feature four pistons and are fully dust sealed. Radial mount calipers cost £183.30, come with 34.6 mm, 38.6mm or 41.2mm pistons to fit between 10mm and 30mm discs and are available in a wide selection of different colours. If you're strapped for cash and aren't fussed about the colours, HiSpec's economy calipers are slightly cheaper at £143.35 (but they are not available with 41.2mm pistons). | | EBC | | As one of the big names in brake products EBC has a set of pads for every occasion. Its most popular pads are from the coloured 'Stuff' range which suit three different levels of fast-road use. Green Stuff pads are your typical entry level pads but are still a great alternative to standard aftermarket pads. Red Stuff pads are marketed for 'premium' cars (in other words, if your MINI tops 200bhp), and are made from a special ceramic composite with a reduced dust formula. Yellow Stuff pads are at the top end of the scale and are intended for your track-day needs but are great for road use too, especially if you're looking for a pad with superb bite, even from cold. Green Stuff pads are available for the Cooper and Cooper S, costing £51.75 for front pads and £44.99 for rears. Red and Yellow Stuff pads are available for the MINI Works. Expect to pay from £63.25 and £54.50 respectively for these front and rear pads. These prices are from Larkspeed and are a massive 15% markdown on the actual RRPs. For more information visit www.larkspeed.com. Whether you’re new to the modification scene or you're a hardened track-day veteran, with the 'Stuff' pads you’re sure to find what's right for you at the right price. | | Larkspeed 0870 744 0101 www.larkspeed.com |
