Alta Mini Performance
| | One of the best ways to turn up the power on a Cooper S is to turn up the boost. This Alta Version 2.0 supercharger pulley, available from Lohen, will create a bigger boost simply by spinning the supercharger faster. It uses Direct Torque Technology (DTT) to allow for the use of two separate materials: the hub is made from stainless steel that's capable of withstanding the forces at work, while the body itself is made from ultralightweight aluminium that lowers the weight of the unit meaning less work for the engine. There are three sizes available; a 15%, 17% and 19% reduction on that of a standard pulley. Although the 19% pulley offers the most power out of the three, Lohen recommend the 15% pulley for competition use due to the strain that the smaller pulley would exert on the engine if run continuously. This Alta supercharger pulley is available for every variant of Cooper S, including JCW and convertibles, and is priced £99 from Lohen. Reduced sized Time to spend wisely on your MINI, so take your pick from our special product selection belts are also available priced £20. Interested? | | Craven Speed
| | MINI specialist aren't just based in Britain, there's plenty of talented MINI mod-heads from across the pond too. Craven Speed is just one of the many parts companies which supply fitments for the new MINI, including its own take on the 15% and 17% reduced diameter supercharger pulleys. The major selling point of this range of pulleys is that Craven Speed claim you won't need to replace your original OEM belt afterwards. That's because these pulleys use Craven's Tru-form profile which prevents slippage thanks to the smooth, form-fitting teeth on the pulley which won't eat or throw the belt off track. If you’re unhappy with the bare stainless steel finish Craven can colour its range of supercharger pulleys black on request. Red pulleys are an option too, but they're part of a separate Speed Pulley set. Both 15% and 17% pulleys are available online from Craven Speed priced $109. | | Ultrik
| | Ultrik is another well-known name which manufactures supercharger pulley upgrades. Set at a 15% reduction diameter Ultrik claim that the added boost results in a dyno measured gain of 20hp at the wheels. Maximum boost is achieved at low RPM, giving more power in the mid-range for the Cooper S. The Ultrik kit uses a 15% reduction pulley as Ultrik believe this is the optimum size to prevent over-spinning and excessive intake charge heat. The unique three-piece design of this pulley delivers superior clamping force and doesn't pull back from the stop when tightened, which can be the case with other two-piece designs. The kit also includes a correct length belt for proper tension operation. The kit is easy to install thanks to a self-aligning design which locates the pulley in the proper positioning in order to save you both time and effort. This Ultrik kit is suited to most Cooper S MINIs (except the Gen2 model) and is priced £115 from Mini Mania UK. So for the complete supercharger pulley package, visit www.minimania.co.uk.

| | Alta pulley removal tool | | No matter which supercharger pulley you choose for your Cooper S, before you can fit it you're going to need something to remove that OEM pulley first. This essential tool from Alta does just that. Unlike other supercharger pulley removers this Alta Supercharger Pulley Removal Tool 2.0 surrounds the entire diameter of the pulley, equally distributing the load whilst being removed and therefore minimising the potential for damaging the car's supercharger shaft. Solid construction from billet aluminium, with a black anodised finish, means that it will be a permanent addition to your toolbox for many years to come. Readers should note that they'll also need a separately sold pulley puller in order to remove OEM pulleys using this tool. The Alta Supercharger Pulley Removal Tool 2.0 is available from Vecchio Engineering priced £59 and is suitable for use on all standard MINI Cooper S pulleys. To find out more visit www.vecchio.co.uk.

| | GT Tuning
| | If you're looking for a little extra beyond just reducing the supercharger pulley then you might want to consider some of the conversions that are currently being offered by GT Tuning. GT Tuning's supercharger pulley is a key feature in all its conversions (with the exception of the GTT190) allowing you to pick and tailor the right conversion for your Cooper S. The GTT supercharger pulley is made from steel instead of aluminium and, as such, is far more robust. The one-piece design is finished in black to give the pulley a stealth look that allows it to blend into the engine bay. The pulley is installed in such a way to mimic OEM factory conditions. First the pulley is heated to 300 degrees Celsius and then it's shrunk on to the supercharger shaft for a perfect fit. Complete conversion kits which include this supercharger pulley upgrade start from £799.25. Also, for piece of mind, each MINI's original supercharger pulley is returned to the customer after the conversion.
