RENAULT Clio - Clio Lowering Spring Dropped Out

Q
I've just changed a leaking back shocker on my Clio. When I jacked up the back end of the car and unbolted the shocker, the spring dropped out! I believe I've got lowering springs fitted, but should the spring drop out and could it do this when I'm driving?

A
If you have lowering springs fitted to your Clio, the reduced height of the spring means it can fall out, but only when the car has been raised so the suspension is hanging down. When you removed the shock absorber, the rear suspension wasn't suspended, so it dropped further and hence the road spring fell out. This should not be a problem when you are driving as the suspension will be under load and the spring compressed. However, it is important to check the spring is properly located before lowering the car back onto the ground. If it's not properly located, it could be forced out.
