JAGUAR S-Type - S-Type Clutch

Q
I am seriously considering the purchase of a 1968 3.8-litre S-type. The car has been subject to a complete rebuild by the owner and is stunning.
I do have one concern though; the clutch, which I am assured is new, is very heavy and I am told this is standard with this model. Can you please advise if this is the case and, if not, what the problem is and how to remedy it.

A
Jaguar clutches are heavier than most modern cars anyway, but while your car should have the later diaphragm clutch, it might have been fitted with the earlier spring type as the flywheel is drilled and tapped for both.
Even a diaphragm clutch can feel heavy, though, if the wrong throw out bearing or clutch fork have been used as it cannot then over centre when the pedal is fully depressed.
