Mini's Muscle in on German Track Day
The adrenalin was pumping and there were Cheshire Cat grins aplenty at Track Marques’ first ever German trackday at the formidable Snetterton circuit. MINI owners Craig Ducker and Wendy Mortimer, the guys from Lohen and 16-year-old racing prodigy, Nina Jo Atkinson, braved the brisk winter winds to have a play out on track alongside hi-spec Audis, Porsches and VWs. After an early morning signing on and driver’s briefing, organisers Phil Royle and Dave Woodall catered for everyone with donuts and coffee before letting people loose on the open pit lane. The day was popular and everyone Modern MINI spoke to seemed very happy, even Cooper S owner Craig Ducker, who had to leave the circuit to go and buy a whole new set of tyres! The next track day is scheduled for the Northamption circuit of Rockingham on Monday 28th April. For £199 you can enjoy a day’s thrilling track action. | Even racking up a £500 bill paying for the trackday, overnight accommodation and then an impromptu brand new set of tyres on the day did not put a damper on 21 year-old Craig Ducker’s spirits. His modded Cooper S boasts a cat-back Janspeed exhaust, K+N panel filter and re-map to produce 186bhp |
 | East Coast MINI Club member Wendy Mortimer chose the trackday over a spa treatment while celebrating her birthday in her ‘baby’ – an 06-plate John Cooper Works GP. With husband Patrick and son Martin in tow, Wendy said her first few laps were nerve-racking while she got her confidence up but loved every minute of it. |
 | Former Sax Max racer Nina Jo Atkinson will be giving her best shot in the MINI Challenge this season. She was at the trackday trying out her new race prepared MINI Cooper and getting her confidence back after a bad accident at Snetterton last year. |
 | Nick Howland and Andrey Magiy from Lohen turned heads with their work-in-progress Pepper White R56 Cooper S. Currently it’s pushing out 210bhp thanks to a Milltek cat-back exhaust and downpipe, Alta air intake kit and Forge blow-off valve adapter. This MINI will be making several other appearances throughout the year so keep an eye out for it! |
